History of The Rock Church
In September of 1989, Pastors Kirk & Suzette Bowman moved to Asheville with a dream in their heart that God would touch Western North Carolina through a thriving local church. The Rock began that year with 3 people, $500 and the seed of that dream.
Our first services were held in a small conference room in a local Days Inn. On the first Sunday, 27 people responded to an ad in the local paper. The next week we grew to 15!
After 9 months, our church family grew, averaging 60 people at a weekly meeting. So we relocated to a larger space at an office park to accommodate more people. In 6 months time, we grew to an average of 180.
A shopping center then became our church home for the next 5 years. Men, women and children were coming to know Jesus and growing in their faith every week!
September 1998 saw us moving into our brand new facility, just outside of West Asheville in Candler, NC. And in 2000, we finished our second phase of building, a "Next Generation" building for our families' children and teenagers. We are now blessed with a $6.5 million dollar, 55,000 sq. ft., state of the art facility on 12 beautifully landscaped acres.
The Rock is now a thriving church family of 900 believers. From very humble beginnings The Rock Church now has ministries that reach around the world. Churches have been planted and teams from our church regularly go to the nations. Our weekly TV broadcast touches thousands. The Rock has multi-faceted ministries that touch and lift children, teens, prisoners, and business entrepreneurs – people from all walks of life. Multiple ministries bless our community both practically and spiritually. God has done an amazing thing for us and through us.
Lifting people to higher levels of life is at the heart of The Rock Church.
At the core of what we are is our desire to see people connected to Jesus, connected to each other, reaching out to our region and world, and living bigger lives!
