Party Theology #1

An oxymoron is a figure of speech that combines two normally contradictory terms: solid gold plated, same difference, boneless ribs... party theology.

JOHN 2:1-10

Jesus' very first miracle was keeping a party going!

We have tried to turn Christianity into a set of rules and regulations - but Chrisitianity is actually more about God helping us live great lives.

Ecclesiastes 5:18

"Enjoy life with the woman whom you love all the days of your fleeting life which He has given to you under the sun; for this is your reward in life, and in your toil in which you have labored under the sun."   - Ecclesiastes 9:9

"Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy."   - 1 Titus 6:17

God richly supplies us with all things to enjoy!  There are certainly other factors to a healthy life, but learn to embrace the concept of enjoying the journey - this is a godly concept!  He wants us to include parties in our world!

Exodus 23:14-16

We have studied the feasts of the Old Testament for their symbolism and typology, but I think we've missed the obvious point.  Feasts were parties God ordained to be in the calendar of His people.

"Feast there in the Presence of GOD, your God. Celebrate everything that you and your families have accomplished under the blessing of GOD, your God."   - Deuteronomy 12:7

"Use the money to buy anything you want: cattle, sheep, wine, or beer—anything that looks good to you. You and your family can then feast in the Presence of GOD, your God, and have a good time."   - Deuteronomy 14:26

"A feast is made for laughter." - Ecclesiastes 10:19, KJV

Matthew 11:16-19

There was something about the way Jesus carried Himself that made people accuse Him of being a party person.  People actually invited him to their parties!

Romans 14:17

"Then he said to them, 'Go, eat of the fat, drink of the sweet, and send portions to him who has nothing prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.'"   - Nehemiah 8:10

The kingdom of God includes joy - and the joy of the Lord is your strength.

Do you have any party in your life? Is there party in your marriage? Is there party in your relationship with your kids, friends, work, walk with God, church?

It's whoe we do life with that matters as much as what we're doing.  Parties always include people.  Who is in your world that you can enjoy life with?
