Galatians #3
Every believer has been entrusted with a ministry.
Ministry is the flow of God’s grace and life through you that helps other people.
6 Key concepts that have to do with finding your ministry sweet spot:
1. Revelation
“For I would have you know, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.” – Galatians 1:11-12
All ministry is born out of revelation. Some of us have a revelation about excellence, prosperity, prayer, mercy, grace, purpose, worship, social justice.
Revelation is the truth you see when the lights come on – once the lights come on, you see it everywhere.
Go where the lights are on for you! Don’t live where it’s dark – live where it’s light. Don’t live in your weakness – live in your strength. Don’t live in your doubts – live in your faith!
2. A sense of call
“But when He who had set me apart, even from my mother's womb…” - Galatians 1:15
Nothing will impact your life like a sense of certainty about the purpose of God in your life.
Many people try to keep so many options open about the purpose of their life – they negate the power of focus for their lives. Knowing this – God set me apart for this purpose – will energize your life with power!
3. A grace mentality
“But when He who had set me apart, even from my mother's womb, and called me through His grace, was pleased…” - Galatians 1:15
Your ministry is a gift. You don’t earn your ministry – you receive it. A revelation of grace will set you free from striving. It will come easily to you. You will still work at it – but from a sense of rest.
“For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me.”
– 1 Corinthians 15:9-10
Once you realize grace has given you a ministry, you are free to enjoy it and flow in it. And you are free to not compare yourself to others because you can enjoy the grace on someone else’s life!
4. A Christ-centered paradigm
“But when He who had set me apart, even from my mother's womb, and called me through His grace, was pleased to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with flesh and blood…” - Galatians 1:15
Stay Christ centered in your ministry. Don’t get a “topic” agenda.
Since our church began 17 years ago, we have seen waves come and go: spiritual warfare, restoration of prophetic ministry, seeker-sensitive, laughing in the spirit, deliverance, high praises, banners, shofars… Waves come and go – and there is always an element of truth in each of them – but because we have stayed Christ-centered, we don’t wash out to sea when the wave rescinds.
6. An understanding of our sphere
But when He who had set me apart, even from my mother's womb, and called me through His grace, was pleased to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with flesh and blood…” - Galatians 1:15
Paul knew his primary sphere of influence was to Gentiles. I’m not after mega-specialists – but we need to know our sphere of grace.
You don’t want me for an evangelistic crusade, but let me get my hands on leaders and then I can flow. Children, youth, music, ushers – find your sphere! Enjoy it and grow in it!
