A Kingdom of Promises and Faith

Galatians #9

Galatians 3:15 - 29

1. God always relates to us by way of a covenant.

My relationship with my kids is mostly built on my commitment to them – not on their commitment to me.

The law was a parenthesis.   It was never God’s way of wanting to relate to us.  His way is: He promises, we believe.

2. All covenant relationship with God is based on a promise from God.

“For if the inheritance is based on law, it is no longer based on a promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise.”
– Galatians 3:18

The purpose of the Law is to define sin – not to define relationship.

Our relationship with God is built on promise from God – not performance by you.

Build your life on the promises of God.

3. Righteousness is a life – not a law.

God’s desire is to impart life.

So much of modern Christianity is built on law – you ought to, you should – instead of life – you get to, you want to, you are able to!

If I believe in the tithe – what it represents as first fruits, the first and the best -  then I open the windows of heaven.  But if I just obey the rule – pay 10% - there is no life in that.

4. The response God desires to a promise is faith.

Faith is a confidence in God’s ability to fulfill His word.

“They said therefore to Him, ‘What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?’ Jesus answered and said to them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.’”   - John 6:28 - 29

Something powerful springs out of what we believe.  Whatever we attach our faith to becomes our reality.  We become what we believe.

5. The new covenant is entering into God’s covenant with Christ.

“But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises.”   – Hebrews 8:6

We enter in - not by performing, but by believing.  What makes the new covenant unshakable is that it’s not a covenant with a man - but with Christ.

"For as many as may be the promises of God, in Him they are yes; wherefore also by Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us."
– 2 Corinthians 1:20

In Christ, life is full of promise.  Life is a big YES.  It’s our amen that makes it so.  "Amen."  "So be it."

He promises – we believe.
