Ready for a Fresh Start? #3

Getting a Fresh Mindset

Recently I read an article about Margaret Wegner – a 59 year old woman who had surgery in August to remove a pencil that had been stuck in her head for 55 years!  She had lived with headaches and nosebleeds almost her entire life - until technological improvements allowed doctors to finally remove it!

A pencil – lodged in her brain for 55 years - impacted her whole life for 55 years.  Finally, at 59, it was removed from her brain.

All of us have things lodged in our brain – attitudes, paradigms, opinions, perspectives. Maybe it’s time to get a fresh start!

How to have a fresh start:

1. Let your past go
2. Rise up and get going
3. Cross over into new territory
4. Be Strong & Courageous
5. Get a fresh mindset

In Joshua 1, the page is turning for Israel.  They have the opportunity to make a fresh start.

"This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success .”  Joshua 1:8

A certain pattern of thinking had entrenched Israel's collective culture after 40 years of wandering and years of slavery under Egyptian bondage.

2Corinthian 10:3-5

Strongholds  are established patterns of thinking - the way we think about God, money, church, risk, work, and relationships.
What if the way you've thought about it is wrong?

What if it's time to change your mind?

Romans 12:2

You can change – starting today.

Psalm 1:1-3

Meditate on the word of God.  Think God's thoughts so that your train of thoughts become like God's train of thoughts.

Thoughts are trains - Trains take you places.

"‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Neither are your ways My ways,’ declares the LORD. ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.’”  -  Isaiah 55:8-9.

If we want to live a higher life, then we have to begin thinking higher thoughts.

All growth in life is about adjusting our paradigms, outlook, behavior, approach, and style. There is no growth without change.

Don't let the book of the law depart from your mouth.

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer.”   - Psalm 19:14
