Our Love is Loud!

On Sunday - all across America, all across the world - people will be gathering in houses of worship.  There will be all kinds of styles and expressions of worship.

Does the Bible give instruction on worship?  Is there a pattern for us to follow?  I want to suggest that our worship style is not new - it is actually several thousand years old!

“Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth. Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singing. Enter His gates with thanksgiving, And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him; bless His name.”   - Psalm 100:1-2,4

“Praise the LORD! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty expanse. Praise Him for His mighty deeds; Praise Him according to His excellent greatness. Praise Him with trumpet sound; Praise Him with harp and lyre. Praise Him with timbrel and dancing; Praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe. Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD!”   - Psalm 150:1-6.

“O Clap your hands, all peoples; Shout to God with the voice of joy. God has ascended with a shout, The LORD, with the sound of a trumpet.”   - Psalm 47:1,5

“Shout joyfully to God, all the earth; Sing the glory of His name; Make His praise glorious.”   - Psalm 66:1-2

“O come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the LORD is a great God, And a great King above all gods.”   - Psalm 95:1-3

“Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth; Break forth and sing for joy and sing praises. Sing praises to the LORD with the lyre; With the lyre and the sound of melody. With trumpets and the sound of the horn Shout joyfully before the King, the LORD.”   - Psalm 98:4-6

There is a recurring theme here – a Biblical expression of worship is to be filled with tons of singing and musical expression!  It is to be passionate with full heart and soul! Our love is to be expressed exuberantly!

We worship an awesome, amazing, excellent, gracious, powerful, wise and merciful God!  He is loving, strong, beautiful, redemptive, and life saving.  How can we express His greatness in any other way than with whole-hearted, passionate, exuberant worship?

In just 2 short weeks we will be celebrating the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday.  We will be celebrating the greatest event in history! God – who loved us enough to pay for our sin - gave up His Son.

“And as He was now approaching, near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles which they had seen, saying, ‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord; Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!’ And some of the Pharisees in the multitude said to Him, ‘Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.’ And He answered and said, ‘I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!’”   - Luke 19:37-40

Here comes THE KING - not some meek and mild religious figure!

The whole multitude was praising God joyfully with a loud voice!  Keep in mind - it was the religious crowd that said, “Can you get them to settle down?” 

Was there silence at the UNC – Duke game?  Was there silence at the Super Bowl?  Is there silence when the Democrats or the Republicans gather to express their message?  Is there silence when one of our soldiers returns home to his family from war?  Is there silence when someone wins the lottery?

What’s going on here is too great for silence!  The King of all kings is being worshipped!
