Over half of Jesus’ teachings were in parables - stories that contain truths for living.
“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.” - Matthew 13:44-46
In the parable of the Treasure in the field, we find The Principle of Total Buy-In.
There is something special released to abandonment. People who have changed the world have done so by complete dedication.
It’s possible to have total buy-in in several places in your life. Marriage, children, God, church, health, work, school – these things require total buy-in!
Having total buy-in means you are willing to buy the whole field to get the treasure. There are things in the field that are not the treasure – they are just part of the field that go with the treasure.
Total buy-in is built on what you value. The value of your vision is the price you’re willing to pay for it. It usually seems like the price is very steep – because we have to let go of what we have. We cannot keep all of our options open and expect great things.
"Devoting a little of yourself to everything means committing a great deal of yourself to nothing." - Michael LeBoef
6 Total Buy-In attitudes from Philippians 3:12-14:
1. I will keep growing in my Buy-In
“Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet.” - Philippians 3:12-13
I haven’t arrived yet – what a great a attitude. People are more interested in what I’m learning than in what I know. Buy-In is a continuous process of growth.
Yesterday’s commitment is not enough for today. I challenge you to give it all away - and I dare you to do it again and again.
2. I will keep pressing on in Buying-In.
“Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 3:12
Through the slow days, the boring days, the tough days, the days I don’t feel like it, the distracting days, the days when I blow it - I will keep pressing in.
3. A sense of destiny will keep me Buying-In.
You have to love what you are involved in. Jesus – for the joy set before Him – endured the cross.
Pure self-discipline will not carry you through many seasons -there has to be a vision of the end result.
4. Forgetting the past will help me keep Buying-In.
“Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead.” - Phillipians 3:13
Constantly looking back and reconsidering your decision will kill total buy-in.
5. I will keep reaching forward in my Buy-In.
The forward reach keeps you moving in the right direction.
Even failing – if forward – will be better than standing still. There are lessons learned out of forward failure that cannot be learned any other way.
6. I will stay up in my Buy-In attitude.
“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” - Phillipians 3:14
Focusing on problems won’t get you anywhere; focusing up will. Focus on the treasure rather than the field.
Are you living half hearted?
How is your buy-in to God, to His house, to your life?
