PARABLES: Seeds

Mark 4:1-9

1. Sowing and reaping is God’s operational law for planet Earth.

This is the way of the kingdom of God:  seeds are planted that grow into something. 

Genesis 8:22
2 Corinthians 9:6
Galatians 6:7

There are some variables that will affect harvest:  drought, flooding, insects… But, over time, God’s operational law of sowing and reaping always continues on planet earth. 

This law works for both positive and negative.  It’s like the law of gravity, the law of electricity – these laws can work FOR us or AGAINST us! 

Locate what you want in life, and then sow toward it. 

Sow love – get friendships. 
Sow good business practices – reap a good business. 
Sow into your relationship with God – reap a great relationship with God.
Sow generosity – reap generosity.

Look at every action, every word, every gesture as a seed. 

2. A barren field can become a fruitful garden if you will plant the right seeds.

A seed can create something that was not there. 

Plant what you want.  You can’t get watermelon sowing tomato seed.  If you want watermelon – plant watermelon seed. 

Ecclesiastes. 11:6

Seeds are potential.  Keep sowing.  You don’t have control over the variables but you can have control over your sowing. 

This principle should give us great hope!  Tomorrow is over – gone – done.   But I can start sowing well today!  I can create a different future! 

3. The seed of the Word of God can transform your life.

There is an outward harvest and an inward harvest. 

“Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God.”  Luke 8:11

The word of God is a seed.  This seed – planted in your heart - can transform your life. 

Romans 12:2

By renewing your mind – thinking differently, processing differently - you can transform your life!  You can change your marriage, your family life, your finances, and your friendships!

Higher thoughts always lead to higher ways. 

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”    – Isaiah 55:8-9

God is comparing the difference between our thoughts and His thoughts to the expanse of the universe!  Your best thought on your best day falls very short of how good God really is. 

1 Peter 1:23
 
God’s word is a seed full of life.  This is not just a book of good stories and ideas.  It’s not rules and regulations to keep.  God’s word is a book of life!

God’s word is living and active!  It accomplishes and succeeds!

4. Don’t put a band-aid on your problem - Grow a new tree in your life.

Time is what happens between sowing and reaping.  If you want potatoes for dinner tonight, you can’t plant them this morning. 

There can be strongholds of negative things in your life.  But how about a stronghold of joy, abundance, and peace? 

How about growing a tree of love, prosperity, generosity, faith and confidence? 

Galatians 6:9

Make the field of your world well-kept, well-watered, and well-seeded.
