reCenter #3

Hebrews 2:1 - 3

Suzette and I grew up in New Orleans - a city below sea level. If you dug a hole, before long it would fill up with water. To build a house you had to drive these huge pilings into the ground or else you would build on mud.

Every once in a while you'd hear about a house blowing up because the foundation shifted and busted a gas line. The gas would build up inside the house until someone lit a match and then - BOOM - it would explode.

The day things explode is the reflection of what's been happening behind the scenes before that explosion. A divorce or a move away from God doesn't just happen - something has been building over a period of time.

We need to pay attention because it's possible to drift away. Shift happens - and we can get knocked off from a level foundation.

1 Peter 2:4 -9

5 Key Thoughts to Help ReCenter Your Life:

1. Worship ReCenters Your Life

1 Peter 2:5

1 Peter 2:9

God put in us the capability to center in a place of worship.

To confess really means to say the same thing as. When we confess His name in praise - we're actually agreeing with God, that He is who He says He is.

Hebrews 13:15

Worship is about centering on truth above the facts. The facts say the economy is down - the truth is: God is Jehovah-Jireh, the God who provides.

The facts say you feel bad - the truth is: God is Jehovah-Rapha, the God who heals.

ReCenter on what is real and lasting!

2. Connections ReCenter Your Life

1 Peter 2:5

You are always connecting with someone - and that connection is taking you somewhere.

Connect with dreamers, believers, positive, people who try, friends who are loyal and loving. Good friends keep you going.

We all want people to see us at our best - when things aren't going well we want to get isolated. When life gets tough, it's easy to back off from the people who can encourage you.

Don't let the devil pick you off by disconnecting you from the friendships that can build you.

3. The House of God ReCenters Your Life

Church is not a meeting you attend - church is a life you share.

Center on the house of God - and stay connected. Because the house is alive - it's moving. Go where the house goes.

If you become disconnected - you can miss out. Stay close to worship, the Word, faith, love, encouragement and purpose!

4. Believing ReCenters Your Life

1 Peter 2:7

Hebrews 10:38

God says we live by believing. Anything short is just existing.

God calls believing righteousness. Keep yourself in God's reality and you can get somewhere.

Faith comes by hearing a word from God - get in the word to hear a word!

5. Jesus ReCenters your life

1 Peter 2:4 - 6

I worked on a surveying crew as a teenager. To measure an elevation, we would have to find a previously measured fixed point to start from.

Your relationship with Jesus is your fixed point. He is your cornerstone - the point where you build everything.

There will be a day when you'll be disappointed by your friends, your spouse and your work. Center your life on Jesus - He will never disappoint you.
