God put a vision in David’s heart - to build a house that would be exceedingly magnificent and glorious in the earth! And God put the work of building this temple into Solomon’s hands.
As a church we believe in legacy and the next generation. We believe in passing the baton so those coming up can go far beyond where we have gone.
As we bring our Kingdom Builders pledges and Day one offerings today, I want to share a few thoughts from 1 Chronicles 29, when David received the offering to get things ready for his son Solomon.
Five Thoughts on the Mentality of a Kingdom Builder:
1. Kingdom Builders give for the glory of God.
1 Chronicles 29:1
Church is God’s idea.
Everything our church does, we want to do for the glory of God. That is why the church exists.
Our primary motivation is that God’s house – in every way – be a reflection of our magnificent God!
I remember the first time I brought friends to Church on the Rock. The minute we pulled up in the parking lot they sensed something was different. They asked, "This is church?" It was alive, vibrant and brimming with energy.
The way we give is going to reflect that we are giving for the glory of God!
2. Kingdom Builders pour their whole heart into whatever they do.
1 Chronicles 29:2
David gave with all his ability to build an extraordinary house for God.
We are asking for 100% participation today. No one dodging this, sitting this one out or standing on the sideline. What we’re asking for is not your money – but your whole heart.
Where your heart is, there your treasure is.
Colossians 3:23 - 24
A halfhearted marriage, a halfhearted life - makes a miserable thing. Put your whole heart into the house of God.
You can’t do anything halfhearted and expect it to be great. Putting your whole heart into something will take you to a completely new level.
3. Kingdom Builders are delight motivated, not guilt motivated.
1 Chronicles 29:3
There are some “have-to’s” in life. You have to obey the law of gravity. You have to expect a shock if you stick a fork in the light socket. And we have to be concerned about the Next generation.
Let’s go beyond “have-to” and go to a place of want-to.
Here is the revelation: We love the house of God and want to make it great. We love the lost and want to reach them. We love the Next generation and want to reach and keep them.
It’s not about guilt – it’s about delight! We give our best to build a great house for God because our hearts are bought into it!
It’s reasonable for us to chip in and help pay for this place because we get to use the buildings, watch our kids grow up here and hold amazing services and meetings.
But I want to go beyond reasonable. I love this place! I love what God is doing and I want to help make it great.
4. Kingdom Builders are generous.
1 Chronicles 29:9 - 13
I have no desire to live in a stingy, small-minded, barely-get-by kind of environment. Generosity is a huge value of our church culture – and it is born out of an abundance mindset!
God is a God of abundance. If we don’t believe that He is abundant, we’ll never release what we already have.
Today, more than ever, it’s important to remember that God is over all of our resources. God-reliant people realize that if God can get it through you, He’ll get it to you.
God never asks for something we don’t have – but He may ask for something we want to keep.
5. Kingdom Builders recognize their true source.
1 Chronicles 29:14
There are many channels but one great source.
Tithe and offering are acts of worship because they are our recognition of God as our source.
1 Chronicles 29:15 - 16
A new day is upon us. We can have an extraordinary church or a mediocre one. God is a magnificent God – let’s give our very best for his glory!
