Finding Your Flow
"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
- Matthew 11:28-30
Walking with Jesus should be like riding in a canoe. Get in and give up control and let the current carry you. Go with the flow. Sometimes, however, we have a tendency to want to pick up the canoe, put it on our shoulders and carry it - thinking that we are being good Christians. God gives us a vision or a dream and we start trying to make it happen ourselves.
When we come to Jesus he takes us to this place called rest. Jesus says, “My yoke is easy. My burden is light.” There is more rest involved in taking up Jesus’ yoke than in lying around doing nothing.
Here are some ideas about finding your flow.
1. Flow happens when you let the game come to you
Instead of asking God to bless what you’re doing, find out what God is doing and get involved in that. Get in his yoke. What He’s doing is blessed.
Flow understands seasons. Some things are done in certain seasons. Forcing the issue – in any arena -- takes you out of the flow.
2. Flow happens when you are in your grace zone
We are all a unique blend of personality, character traits, experiences, gifts, talents, perspectives, and lessons from the Lord. Embrace the grace that God has put into your life. Embrace you.
There is a deposit of the grace of God inside each one of us – it’s called a gift. Locate your gift, get into your grace zone and flow. Develop it and use it to serve others.
"To each one of us grace is given as Christ apportioned it." - Ephesians 4:7
3. Flow happens when you quit comparing
In the age of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram it becomes easier than ever to compare your daily, boring life with other people’s highlight reels.
"That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original". -Galatians 5:26
You were born an original, don’t die a copy. Comparison is the worst way to find yourself. It’s your uniqueness that makes you special anyway!
4. Flow happens when you accept you are loved and don’t have to earn it
God loves you just like you are. But He also loves you enough to not leave you just like you are. Every believer can live in a growth mindset where they can become everything God created them to be.
