I Love My Church (So I'm Generous)

I Love My Church: Generosity

Psalms 26:8 O LORD, I love the habitation of your house and the place where your glory dwells.

Psalms 27:4 One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD and to meditate in His temple.

“I love my church” means I’ll be a contributor not just a consumer and I’ll be a participant not just passive about loving my church. We are here to be force of life in the earth and a gate of heaven to Western North Carolina.

We’ve been talking about elements that would help us be a great church. When we are a praying church then we become a spiritual connect point for the earth.

Generosity is also one of those elements.

Acts 20:35 Remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

It is more blessed to be a giver than a taker. We will not be a church that wants the least it can do to get by. We want to seek what the best is that we can give for the glory of God.

Proverbs 22:9 He who is generous will be blessed, for he gives some of his food to the poor.

I want to share five key concepts concerning tithe and offering.

1. Tithe and offering honors God

Tithe is not just 10 percent of your income, it’s the first and best 10 percent. By giving Him my first and best, I honor him. God does not get my leftovers.

2. Tithe and offering is God's method for providing resources for His house

Malachi 3:10 “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house.”

God’s plan is for His house to be resourced by tithe and offering. It was never God’s intention for His house to be mediocre and struggling.

3. Our tithe and offering has an impact on those around us

When I get blessed, those around me are blessed.

4. Tithe and offering is God's idea

The concept of tithe is entirely a God idea. It is not an isolated, obscure idea in the Bible, it is a concept that runs throughout Scripture.

When God is calling you to obey him with your tithe, he’s not after your money, He’s after your heart.

5. Tithe and offering opens the windows of heaven

Malachi 3:10 Test Me now in this,” says the LORD of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.

God’s will and intention for you is to have your barns filled with plenty and vats overflowing with new wine. This is the kind of church we want to be.

What makes that happen? Tithe and offering is God’s method for showing Him honor, resourcing the work of His church, and releasing the blessing in our lives.

God is for you!
