Spare Not - This Is My Year #4
This is My Year: Spare Not
Isaiah 54:1-3 "Shout for joy, O barren one, you who have borne no child; Break forth into joyful shouting and cry aloud, you who have not travailed; For the sons of the desolate one will be more numerous than the sons of the married woman," says the Lord. "Enlarge the place of your tent; Stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, spare not; Lengthen your cords, And strengthen your pegs. "For you will spread abroad to the right and to the left. And your descendants will possess nations, And they will resettle the desolate cities.
We need to have a “spare not” attitude. If you have a “what’s the least I can get by with” mentality, you will not grow or enlarge your world. Consider these points as you “spare not” and go for the best in order to have the best year yet.
1. Generosity is an outlook on all of life
Proverbs 22:9 He who is generous will be blessed, for he gives some of his food to the poor.
A prosperous, generous heart is a heart full of the life of God. Don’t have an “all I need is enough for me to make it,” mentality. Generosity is about being a giver in life rather than a taker. Generosity is not just about money but it will impact how we handle our money and our attitude toward finances.
2. Generosity increases your world
Proverbs 11:24-25 There is one who scatters, yet increases all the more, and there is one who withholds what is justly due, but it results only in want. The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered.
When you release, you increase. Sowing and reaping is one of the great governing laws of life.
3. Generosity creates a new standard of living
Luke 6:38 "Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, they will pour into your lap. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return."
Don’t wait until you get to start giving. Be generous with giving to create a great future.
4. Generosity grows relationships
Proverbs 19:6 Many will entreat the favor of a generous man, and every man is a friend to him who gives gifts.
This isn’t about buying friendship; it’s about being a giver in relationships. Love looks for outlets, not limits.
5. The purpose of being blessed is to release us into generosity
Genesis 12:2 And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and so you shall be a blessing.
We are blessed to be a blessing. God has no problem blessing you, He just doesn’t want the blessing to stop at you.
6. Generosity is born out of an abundance mentality
An abundance mentality realizes there’s plenty to go around. Abundance is a revelation that must occur for real generosity to be released.
7. Generosity is an act of worship
John 12:3 Mary therefore took a pound of very costly perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
Mary was not looking for the least she could do. She was generous and extravagant in her devotion to Jesus, filling the house with the fragrance of extravagant devotion.
Make this your year by following in Mary’s footsteps with extravagant generosity.
