Strengthen Your Pegs - This Is My Year #5
This is My Year: Strengthen Your Pegs
Isaiah 54:1-3 “Shout for joy, O barren one, you who have borne no child; Break forth into joyful shouting and cry aloud, you who have not travailed; for the sons of the desolate one will be more numerous than the sons of the married woman,” says the LORD. “Enlarge the place of your tent; stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, spare not; lengthen your cords and strengthen your pegs. “For you will spread abroad to the right and to the left. And your descendants will possess nations and will resettle the desolate cities.
We have to change our attitude to accommodate our expectation of God's fulfillment of His promises. With that change, we can think bigger, live larger, love more expansively and get out of our own little world. It’s not just a call to bigger; it’s a call to live differently.
As we have learned, Isaiah 54 gives us a pattern for creating our future:
See it. Say it. Stretch for it. Spare not. Strengthen.
We need to rise in strength to do the will of God in the earth. There are many forces opposing God’s kingdom from advancing in the earth. We need to take up a strong posture of loving God, lifting people and changing the world.
5 Pegs to Strengthen
1. Strength of Character
Character counts. To enlarge outwardly but not have the character to sustain it is a dangerous thing. It’s possible for your lifestyle to outgrow what your character can sustain.
2. Strengthen Your Relationships
Proverbs 25:19 Like a bad tooth and an unsteady foot is confidence in a faithless man in time of trouble.
Your relationships matter. Don’t get so busy or pre-occupied that you don’t invest time and energy into your relationships. Your relationships will define your future.
3. Strengthen Your Convictions
The world devalues someone with strong convictions. Circumstances may change but convictions last through the changes.
4. Strengthen Your Church
The church is God’s idea and a strong Rock Church is valuable for Asheville.
The true value of our church is not just how many people show up on Sunday, it’s the quality of life produced in our environment and it’s the transformation of lives that have embraced Jesus.
5. Strengthen Your Personal Relationship with God
Psalms 27:14 Wait for the LORD; be strong and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for the LORD.
Isaiah 40:31 Yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.
Your relationship with God will be strengthened by the time you spend with Him.
It’s not about earning His approval with works. It’s about being strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Make time in your schedule to be alone with God in His work, in prayer, in worship and in meditation.
