Work It Out - Joy #10
Joy – Work it Out
Philippians 2:12-13 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
The desires in your heart are given to you by God. Take what God is stirring in you and step out to do the thing that God has put in your heart and called you to do. It’s so important to pay attention to what is happening in your heart, and then to act on it in cooperation with His will and His power.
Philippians 2:12-13 Be energetic in your life of salvation, reverent and sensitive before God. That energy is God's energy, an energy deep within you, God himself willing and working at what will give him the most pleasure.
Be energetic with God’s energy. He wants us to live a life strengthened with the power of God according to His glorious might. The idea is not so much to be strong for God, it’s to be strengthened BY God.
Many of our challenges are simply opportunities to exchange our weakness for His strength.
Opportunities to stretch are God’s way to get us off of self-dependence. When we are outside of our comfort zones, we have to rely on God’s strength rather than our own.
1. Desire is a powerful force
The spirit of God is at work in you to will or to desire what God wants for your life. It is so important to pay attention to what God is doing in your heart – what he is saying in you. He is at work in your desires.
Desire is a powerful force. You will not become a man or a woman of God without strong desire. Great things require great desire.
Keep a soft heart before the Lord - He will guide your desires. His will for you will be something you desire. It won’t be easy and it will push you, but you will like it.
2. Work out in His power what He is working in by His power
God works from the inside out. Cooperate outwardly with what’s going on within you. This is how God grows us.
This is not working for your salvation; this is working out your salvation. Sometimes we stop short but just having the desire is only the beginning. We need to move beyond intention (desire) to action.
This is the balance we walk in, the tension we manage. It’s not all us. God is at work but it’s not all God either. We have to work out what He works in.
